'Smart Ankara Project' was introduced

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality introduced the “Smart Ankara Project” within the scope of sustainable transportation projects. Within the scope of the project where the "Electric Bicycle Sharing System" to be carried out by the EGO General Directorate will be implemented; 408 electric bicycles that can be rented by citizens will be purchased, 34 charging and parking stations, 480 bicycle transport apparatus for municipal buses and 1290 meters of bicycle ramps will be purchased for the stairs of metro stations.

The Metropolitan Municipality, which has implemented environmental and sustainable transportation projects one by one, held the introductory meeting of the "Smart Ankara Project".

To the introductory meeting of the project carried out by the EGO General Directorate in order to reduce the traffic density and to encourage the citizens to act; Head of the European Union Delegation to Turkey Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, ministry representatives, rectors and deans of universities and ABB bureaucrats attended.

A MORE LIVABLE AND QUALITY FUTURE

Speaking at the meeting, EGO General Manager Nihat Alkaş said that with the project, an urban transportation plan will be prepared and the "Electric Bicycle System" will be put into practice. Stating that they aim to contribute to more environmentally friendly, accessible and economical mobility within the scope of the Sustainable Urban Transportation Plan, Alkaş said, "Our goal within the scope of the project is to provide a livable and quality future to Ankara with a vision extending until 2040, the creation of a strategic plan and the 20-year planning to be created."

CITIZENS WILL BUY 408 ELECTRIC BICYCLES THAT CAN BE RENT

Alkaş said that 24 percent of the 5 million Euro cost of the project, which will last for 85 months, will be covered by European Union funds and 15 percent by co-financing institutions.

“In this context, 408 electric bicycles for citizens to rent, 34 charging stations to charge bicycles, 480 bicycle carriers to be mounted on EGO buses, a 1290-meter bicycle ramp to be placed on the stairs of metro stations, 2 bicycle transport vehicles for field operations and measuring bicycle usage. For this purpose, 8 bicycle counters will be supplied.”

The project, supported by the European Union Delegation to Turkey and coordinated by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, will be carried out by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality EGO General Directorate.
