CHP councilors of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality objected to the zoning plans that opened the Buca Prison area, which was demolished by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, to construction. The CHP members, who came together in front of the South gate at the Izmir Regional Court of Justice, announced their objections to the plans.

“This will be green space”

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Aydın stated that they are against the use of the Buca Prison area against the public interest and said, “Before that, 'That metro will come to Buca. We are right. We said, 'We have no deficiencies legally,' and that's what happened. We said 'We will not let the ship loaded with asbestos into İzmir' and we succeeded. Because we were right and we were defending something right. We sent that ship back. As all İzmir people, as all İzmir components, we have achieved this. And now we say, 'The area of Buca Prison belongs to the people and it will be a green area.' They won't be able to build that building there. Because we are right. Because we are in the right place legally,” he said.

A call to struggle for the people of Izmir

Murat Aydın, who also called for the citizens to struggle, said: “We want to say to the people of İzmir: 'Be with us. Let's move together.' The people of Izmir and the CHP will not allow rent. Because we defend the right, law and justice. We will continue to defend," he said.
