Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu reported that the person who dropped the bomb on Beyoğlu Istiklal Street was detained by the Istanbul Police Department.
Stating that terrorism does not suit Turkey, Minister Süleyman Soylu said, “For about 6 years, we have not experienced an effective event, a terrorist incident like the one we experienced last night in Istanbul. (Explosion in Beyoğlu) We are ashamed of our nation in this regard. We have prevented nearly 200 terrorist incidents this year alone. Maybe these are terrorist incidents that will cause more dire consequences than the incident we encountered.” said.
Expressing that terrorism has a different face, Minister Süleyman Soylu said, “You fight on the mountain. You fight across borders. You fight in the city and prevent many terrorist incidents. You miss one. As a nation, as a country, you will pay a great price for the lives we lost. Of course, we know that we are facing a great test in our geography.” he said.
Stating that there is no Kobani, Tel Rifat, Manbij, Nusaybin or Qamishli in anyone's geography, our Minister Mr. Süleyman Soylu said:
“With these, a struggle is being waged with all our friends, with the great will of our President. Istiklal Street is the coy baby of our nation. We know what message those who carry out this action want to give us. We got this message. Don't worry, we will pay more heavily in return. I think it is essential to evaluate the condolence message made by the United States today as if the murderer was one of the first to arrive at the crime scene, and the response to this message will emerge very clearly. It will be seen soon, by Allah's leave.”
Our Minister Mr. Süleyman Soylu expressed his great sadness and that there were 6 terrorist martyrs and wished God's mercy on those who lost their lives.
Minister Süleyman Soylu said: “They all have a different story. We had the opportunity to be with the mother, spouse of some, and the father and mother of some of them. Dear Governor, Vice President and Deputy Ministers, we visited the hospitals together. In the meanwhile, of course, a great effort was made to find the perpetrators of this incident, under the coordination of both our Chief of Police, our Head of Terrorism, our Head of Intelligence, and our Istanbul Police Chief, from the time of the incident. Every step that could be made, both technically and physically, was tried to be taken.”
Minister Süleyman Soylu reported that Arzu Özsoy, who was born in 1984 in Istanbul and his daughter Yağmur Uçar, who was born in Ereğli in 2007, Yusuf Meydan, who was born in Palu in 1988, Ecrin Meydan, who was born in 2013 Seyhan, Adem Topkara, who was born in Gümüşhane in 1982, and his wife Mukaddes Elif Topkara, who was born in 1995 in Rize, died due to the explosion.
Sharing the information that 3 people were injured and 2 people were discharged from the attack, 81 of 50 families were missing, Minister Süleyman Soylu said, “Some of them were our brothers, whom we kept in the hospital as a precaution due to tinnitus. After our doctors said they could go, they all went to their homes. 5 of our injured are currently in intensive care. The condition of our 2 injured is also serious. Still others are being held in hospital as a precaution. I wish them healing from Allah Almighty." said.
Minister Süleyman Soylu stated that from the moment the action took place, the Istanbul Police Department and all units have been working on the place of origin, the place where the order was taken, and those who carried out the action.
“We have been on the same track since the first evaluations. We have an assessment that the order for the action came from Kobane. We have an assessment that the perpetrator passed through Afrin. And again, of course, if this incident had never happened, if we hadn't had any casualties, but right now, thousands of our heroes across the border, thousands of heroes in the mountains inside the border, thousands of our heroes in the cities are just fighting to prevent terrorism. The person who carried out the incident and dropped the bomb was detained by the teams of our Istanbul Police Department. Before that, about 21 more people were detained.”
