Psychosocial Support Studies Will Be Carried Out in Schools in Düzce

The teams of the Ministry of National Education, who reached the region immediately after the earthquake that took place in Düzce Gölyaka on November 23 and conducted investigations upon the instruction of the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, determined the priority needs.

The Düzce Gölyaka-centered earthquake that occurred on 23 November at 04.08 was felt in many surrounding cities. Immediately after the earthquake, upon the instruction of Minister Özer, the Ministry delegation, which was formed for the on-site surveillance of schools and institutions affiliated to the Ministry and to meet the urgent needs, went to the region to conduct investigations. While the said investigations continued in Düzce Gölyaka, on the other hand, notes from the region were discussed in Ankara in order not to waste time.

Needs were identified and a situation assessment meeting was held with wide participation.

After the technical examinations carried out by the General Directorate of Construction and Real Estate, General Directorate of Support Services, General Directorate of Secondary Education and General Directorate of Basic Education and heads of departments, a situation assessment meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of National Education Sadri Şensoy.

Strategy Development Directorate, Support Services General Directorate, General Directorate of Religious Education, General Directorate of Construction and Real Estate, General Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education, General Directorate of Special Education and Guidance Services, General Directorate of Special Education and General Directorate of Basic Education unit chiefs and heads of departments. joined. Düzce, Sakarya and Zonguldak Provincial and District National Education Managers and Bolu Provincial Director of National Education were also present online at the meeting.

Detection and repair works are carried out in a coordinated manner.

In the meeting, information was obtained from the provincial and district national education directors about the status of the schools and their annexes affected by the earthquake. The works carried out in coordination with other public institutions and organizations, especially the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, were evaluated in detail. At the meeting, where MEB units shared their short and long-term support plans to the field with the provincial and district national education directorates, Deputy Minister Şensoy emphasized that all means would be mobilized to meet the needs as soon as possible.

In line with the instructions of Minister Özer, in order not to miss the slightest need, the General Directorate of Construction and Real Estate unit chiefs and heads of departments will continue to conduct inspections in the earthquake zone for a while.

Psychosocial support activities will be carried out in schools

In addition to the determination of the education buildings affected by the earthquake in the field, the MoNE Psychosocial Support Team started working in coordination with the Düzce provincial psychosocial support team in order to plan the psychosocial support activities to be carried out in schools after the earthquake in Düzce. In the first stage, students, teachers and parents who experienced victimization were identified and visits were made.

Support centers were established by the provincial directorate of national education under the coordination of the provincial team. Information was given about directing teachers, students and parents affected by the earthquake to psychosocial support centers.

"Earthquake and Psychological Trauma, Children's Help Guide for Families", "Earthquake and Psychological Trauma, Help Guide for Teachers", "Traumatic Life Events and Psychological Resilience in the Family, Information Guide for Families” and “Preserving Psychological Resilience at School in the Face of Traumatic Life Events/Information Guide for Teachers” were shared with the provincial directorate of national education to be distributed to teachers and parents.

In this process, it was reported that while the psychoeducation program implementation studies are planned to strengthen the psychological resilience of the students and contribute to their normalization processes, individual psychological counseling services will also be provided to the students in need.

On the other hand, another field visit will be held on November 28 to examine the coordination of psychosocial support activities to be held in Düzce.
