International September 9 İzmir Half Marathon Staged Great Excitement

Organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in honor of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Izmir, the 10th International September 9 Izmir Half Marathon witnessed great excitement. Sezgin Ataç from Istanbul BBSK and Sümeyye Erol from Bursa BŞB in women won the race, in which three thousand people started with a record participation.

Organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, the 10th International 9 September İzmir Half Marathon was held with record participation. In the marathon, in which three thousand people competed, Sezgin Ataç from Istanbul BBSK took the first place in men and Sümeyye Erol from Bursa BŞB in women. In the men's general classification, Kenyan Sang Bernad Charuyot came second and Ethiopia's Fetene Alemu Regasa came in third. In women, Sabriye Güzelyurt from Kasımpaşa Club finished second and Fatma Arık from Mardin Municipality finished third.

In the half marathon run on the route Cumhuriyet Square – İnciraltı – Cumhuriyet Square, general classification men and women, general classification Turkish male and female athletes as well as 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59 and 60-64 age groups Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, Head of Youth and Sports Services Department Hakan Orhunbilge, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club President Ersan Odaman presented the cups and awards to the winners in their groups.

The first step into the second century

Ertuğrul Tugay, Deputy Secretary General of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, said that they had a wonderful day and said, “We showed our enthusiasm to all of Turkey on September 9, the day of establishment and liberation. Within the scope of these celebrations, there was also a half marathon. Everyone who participated in the international race experienced the feeling of 100 years. Just as a step was taken to liberation 100 years ago, we took the first step of the second century in which peace will be experienced, together with beautiful people from Izmir," he said.

Hakan Orhunbilge, Head of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department, stated that they were excited about the 10 September Half Marathon, which was held for the 9th time, and said, “We ran with great enthusiasm in the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Izmir. There were grandiose events throughout the week. We gave hopeful images to the whole of Turkey. Participation in the half marathon was also at a record level. In memory of this meaningful day, we gave a nice gift to the participants with our medals and trophies.”

Ersan Odaman, President of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club, said, “During this week, we were partners in the enthusiastic 100 years celebrations with all Izmir residents. The people of Izmir showed their interest in sports once again in the races that we develop and organize every year. We are very happy,” he said.
