İzmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU General Directorate is carrying out a comprehensive cleaning work in Bostanlı Stream. During the works aimed at preventing the formation of floods and odors, tons of wastes were removed, which the citizens threw into the stream beds instead of the garbage or recycling bins, and then carried to the sea with the rains.

İZSU General Directorate, which has started a cleaning and improvement operation in the stream beds for a cleaner Gulf and sustainable environment, is also carrying out a major cleaning work in the Bostanlı Stream, which is one of the largest streams in the city.

Within the scope of the works in Bostanlı Creek, İZSU teams produced approximately 2 thousand cubic meters of waste by using mechanical and hydraulic methods in the shallow part where the stream meets the sea. During the cleaning, a large amount of human-made waste such as plastic packaging, clothing and automobile tires was found, as well as natural materials carried by the rains from the stream basin stretching from Yamanlar Mountain to the Bostanlı coast.

Call to citizens

İZSU General Directorate Gulf Branch Manager Selçuk Dündar stated that the cleaning works were carried out under difficult conditions due to the difficulty of reaching the shallow part of the Bostanlı Stream between Cemal Gürsel Street and the viewing terrace by sea vehicles. Reminding that a large amount of domestic waste is removed from the creek and the Gulf coast, Dündar said, “Unfortunately, the materials that need to be thrown into the garbage or recycling bins or collected by special methods are thrown into the streams. From there it reaches the sea. We expect the necessary sensitivity from our citizens for a clean gulf," he said.
