Having completed the training program for the operating personnel, 55 Turkish experts started to work in the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) field. Young specialists participating in the training program for nuclear engineers to work at Akkuyu NPP, completed their higher education at the National University for Nuclear Research (NRNU MEPhI) in the Russian Federation and St. He graduated from the Peter the Great Polytechnic University (SPBPU) in St. Petersburg.

Young experts who started to work in the field were informed about human resources policy, professional development opportunities, and occupational safety and health by going through an adaptation program.

Technical and personnel department heads of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. met with the young engineers during the first working days of the experts in the NPP field. Sergey Kozyrev, Deputy Technical Director for Operations, briefed the new employees on how the various workshops and sections of the nuclear power plant under construction work and on the specific responsibilities of conducting technological processes at nuclear power plants. Andrey Pavlyuk, Human Resources Director, conveyed to young experts the processes of continuing education and further education as a prerequisite for professional development in the nuclear industry.

Anastasia Zoteeva, General Manager of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş, made the following statement on the subject: “The increase in the number of Turkish engineers and the rate of localization every year attracts Turkish companies to participate in the construction of nuclear power plants. Transferring nuclear technologies from Russian experts to Turks is the primary goal of the Akkuyu NPP project. The training program in Russian universities and the creation of more employment in the nuclear power plant, which is under construction, is one of the most important personnel projects implemented for more than 10 years. Young Turkish engineers will write the history of peaceful nuclear energy in their country and set an example for new graduates who want to connect their lives with nuclear power generation, a highly promising and sought-after nuclear technology sector.”

SPbPU 2022 graduate Mustafa Elaldı said: “After I started working at Akkuyu NGS, I realized that my colleagues are real professionals and I can learn a lot from them. We have completed the training at the university, but for a specialist in the nuclear sector, the training never ends, we need to constantly improve. I am happy that I have many opportunities to develop at AKKUYU NUCLEAR.”

Aykan Uğural, a graduate of NRNU MEPhI 2022, said, “I was looking forward to entering the field after graduation. On the first working day, I got to know the site and my new colleagues. When I saw the scale of the project with my own eyes, I understood that I had made the right decision by studying in Russia and working at Turkey's first nuclear power plant.” he said.

Semih Avcı, graduate of NRNU MEPhI 2022, said, “The first working day passed quickly. We were all so excited! Finally, the day we prepared during our 6,5 years of education in Russia came and we started working on the site of Turkey's first nuclear power plant. Company employees held an introductory meeting and gave detailed information about Akkuyu NPP, which we will continue to operate for many years. We met Turkish engineers who graduated from Russia and have been working on the project for several years.”

Yaşar Buğrahan Küçük, a graduate of NRNU MEPhI 2022, also used the following statements: “This year, one of the most important events of my life took place; I joined the large and sincere team of AKKUYU NÜKLEER. I am proud to be a part of such a great project. From day one, I felt like I was part of a friendly, big family.”

The personnel training program for Akkuyu NPP started in 2011. 244 graduates from NRNU MEPhI and 47 from SPBPU. Young engineers received their specialization and postgraduate diplomas in the fields of "Nuclear power plants: Design, Operation, Engineering", "Radiation safety" and "Automatic process control system". Currently, 51 Turkish students continue their specialization training for the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Russia.
