Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer He gave the good news of the dormitory that will house a library, art workshops, conference and gym in order to solve the housing problem of university students in İzmir. Stating that accommodation is the most basic right, President Soyer said, “We will build a girls' dormitory with 3 beds in Bornova Evka-835. We are planning this place as a social facility apart from the classical dormitory understanding consisting of only a dormitory and a dining hall.”

Minister Tunç Soyer Stating that the housing problem experienced by the university students who came to İzmir this academic year, they were deeply saddened, and said, “We took action quickly and reached 440 students who had housing problems and solved their problems. Now we will establish a girls' dormitory with a capacity of 835 beds in Bornova. We are planning this place as a social facility apart from the classical dormitory understanding consisting of only a dormitory and a dining hall. Everyone now knows the plight of our youth, who come from abroad and have housing problems, with painful examples. We will continue to be with our youth throughout their education life.”

The girls' dormitory, which will have 32 thousand square meters of usage area in Bornova Erzene District, will have a conference hall for 229 people, a library for 94 people, a cafeteria for 300 people, a cafeteria for 120 people, painting and music workshops, a 300 square meter gym, laundry, parking lot for 80 cars and a shelter. . The dormitory building, which is designed with a green focus, will have a large inner courtyard and gardens on the floors. Dormitory rooms will be for three people, and there will be ten single rooms. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will go out to tender in the coming months for the student dormitory whose application project is ready. After the completion of the tender process, the dormitory construction is expected to start this year.

Izmir embraced the youth

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started the project “Izmir Embraces Young People” for university students who have housing problems. Within the scope of the project, a boys' dormitory in Buca and a girls' dormitory in Örnekköy were put into use. 267 students were placed in dormitories, 16 students were placed in the TOKİ residences of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Uzundere, 5 students were placed with families from Izmir, 12 students were temporarily placed in hotels, and 7 students were placed in the girls' house in İZSİAD Atatürk Mahallesi. Temporary accommodation support was given to 65 students. Financial support of 68 TL was provided to 8 students for 600 months.

In addition, education support of 5 TL for the children of university students was given to 547 families in need, residing in Izmir, and 3 TL of the support was invested.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality distributes hot meals to 3 students a day at Ege University, Dokuz Eylul University (DEU), Izmir Institute of Technology (IYTE) and Katip Celebi University upon the request of students.
