Within the scope of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer's vision of “Another Agriculture is Possible”, support for climate-friendly forage plant seeds continues. In order to meet the need for quality roughage and hay, which is one of the most important needs of the livestock sector, and to use water resources efficiently, the distribution of certified feed seeds, which started in 2020, continues. A total of 95 thousand 2 kilograms of fodder seeds were distributed to 457 producers in Ödemiş, Tire and Bergama. Thus, planting will be done on an area of 2 decares in three districts. With the forage plant seed support provided, the producer will be able to provide a part of his feed needs and also be able to meet the need for seeds to be used in the next planting.

Metropolitan Municipality distributed 2020 thousand 7 kilograms of forage plant seeds to the producer in Beydağ and Bergama, which were determined as pilot regions in 170, and planting was done on a thousand 100 decares of land. Thus, a total of 15 tons of seeds were distributed in two years, and climate-friendly forage crops were planted on an area of 2 decares.

“We will expand it across Izmir”

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “We want to expand the cultivation areas of forage crops that are suitable for the climatic conditions of the region, resistant to cold and thirst, and have rich nutritional value throughout Izmir. Because our water resources are decreasing day by day due to reasons such as uncontrolled and unconscious irrigation and wrong product selection.” said.

The manufacturer is satisfied

Emphasizing the importance of feed seed support, Bergama Yukarıköy Neighborhood Headman Yusuf Doğan said, “It is a very good practice for the farmer. This support makes us very happy at a time when seeds are so expensive. We would like to thank our Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer and his colleagues for their support.”
