President Soyer, who participated in the first voyage of the nostalgic tram, said, "We are honored to put our trams into service on the 9th anniversary of September 98, when our struggle for independence ended with victory and opened the door to the Republic."
The first of three nostalgic trams built by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality to serve between Alsancak Port viaducts and Cumhuriyet Square was put into service on the 98th anniversary of Izmir's liberation from enemy occupation.
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer and his wife Neptün Soyer, CHP Party Assembly Member (PM) Rıfat Nalbantoğlu, Izmir deputies Sevda Erdan Kılıç, Bedri Serter, Murat Minister, Kani Beko, mayors, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council Member and Gender Equality Commission President Av. Nilay Kökkılınç and municipal bureaucrats attended.
We kept our promise
Mayor Tunç Soyer started his speech by saying that he was proud to fulfill another promise he made to the citizens of Izmir. Saying that they have revived the Rıhtım tram line, which has a very important place in the history of İzmir, under the name of "Nostalgic Tram", Soyer said, "Our nostalgic trams that will serve between the Alsancak Port viaducts and Cumhuriyet Square are among the electric trains that served between Güzelyalı-Konak in İzmir from 1928 to 1954. Designed with inspiration. We designed our vehicles, which we procured from a local company, in an environmentally friendly manner, with rubber wheels and electrics, without damaging the green texture of Kordon. We have determined the names of our trams, which will serve with 3 wagons in total, as 'Boyoz', 'Gevrek' and 'Çiğdem', which are identified with our Izmir. "We will put the second of our trams into service today, 45 days later, and the third one 90 days later, to the service of our countrymen."
We reduce the traffic load of the city
Saying that nostalgic trams with a seating capacity of 28 people will travel on the 660-meter route, Soyer said that the color of the trams, which will serve at four stops, namely Cumhuriyet Square, Gündoğdu Square, Alsancak Pier and Alsancak Port, was determined by the colors of the trams in Izmir in the 1900s. Emphasizing that they have developed a sustainable and comprehensive transportation policy in İzmir, Soyer completed his words as follows: “In this context, we increase the rail and sea transportation in public transportation, and provide comfortable and safe transportation to all parts of İzmir with our new buses in land transportation. In order to reduce the traffic load of our city, we encourage bicycle and pedestrian transportation instead of using private vehicles. We believe that our nostalgic tram, which will bring an important spirit to our Izmir as in the past, will also contribute to pedestrian transportation. We are proud to put our trams into service on the 9th anniversary of the September 98 liberation, when our struggle for independence ended in victory and opened the door to the Republic. "
After the speeches, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer participated in the first voyage of the nostalgic tram with the guests.
