This great capacity increase in pre-school education provided a significant increase in the rate of schooling between the ages of three and five. According to this, the three-year-old schooling rate goes from 9 percent to 15 percent in a year; The four-year-old schooling rate increased from 16 percent to 36 percent. The five-year-old schooling rate, on the other hand, increased from 65 percent to 98 percent, reaching a historical record.

Making an assessment on the subject, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer said: “We see pre-school education as the focal point of equality of opportunity in education. On the other hand, the findings expressed by most studies that individuals who have attended pre-school education stay in education and employment longer in their lives and have a lower rate of involvement in crime. In order for our citizens to benefit from these benefits at the maximum level, we are happy to have already reached and even exceeded the targets we set for 2022 in accessing pre-school education. While an increase of nearly 100 percent was achieved in the three and five age groups, we increased the enrollment rate from 65 percent to 98 percent at the age of five.”

Double the increase in all provinces

Stating that the current increase is experienced in all provinces, Minister Özer said, “The five-year-old schooling rates in our three big cities were well below the Turkey average a year ago. At this point, the increases are quite striking. Accordingly, the rate of schooling at the age of five increased from 45 percent to 87 percent in Istanbul; It rose from 42 percent to 85 percent in Ankara and from 55 percent to 95 percent in Izmir.
