Türk Telekom's Innovative Move in 5G

Türk Telekom became the first operator in the world to use the technology that provides the critical time and frequency synchronization solution in 5G in its network. The technology developed jointly by Türk Telekom engineers and Net Insight, one of the world's leading technology solutions companies, is expected to significantly reduce synchronization investment costs in 5G and increase service continuity.

Türk Telekom, the pioneer of digital transformation in Turkey, continues its efforts to shape the future with 5G and new generation technologies. Türk Telekom became the first operator in the world to implement the "Time Synchronization Transmission Solution", implemented in cooperation with Net Insight, one of the world's leading technology companies, on its network for the first time in the world. This patented technology solution developed by Türk Telekom and Net Insight will provide strategic superiority in network technologies.

Minimum end-to-end deviation from Edirne to Hakkari

The testing process of Türk Telekom's efforts to provide the GPS-independent stable synchronization service required by all mobile operators for 5G has been successfully completed. Türk Telekom, which has installed 20 points in Turkey, will have a central synchronization network with high time accuracy and will be able to offer synchronization service to 5G base stations.

While the highest time deviation value for 5G was 1500 nanoseconds, according to the first data obtained from Türk Telekom live network, this value was measured between 5 and 45 nanoseconds in two different regions of Turkey. Thus, these values revealed that sensitive synchronization information can be carried from Edirne to Hakkari with minimum deviation regardless of the network equipment.

“A solution to increase efficiency and save resources”

Türk Telekom Technology Assistant General Manager Yusuf Kıraç said, “We have become the first operator to implement the next generation synchronization solution, which is critical for 5G and beyond technologies, developed together with Net Insight by taking advantage of the patents of Turkish engineers, on the live network. We see a significant potential in the global market for this innovative solution that will reduce costs and increase service continuity for mobile operators and all sectors with critical time synchronization requirements. With our product, which is far below the 5 nanosecond precision required for 1500G's synchronization needs, we can meet all the requirements for synchronization. We are proud to develop satellite independent solutions for operators and standardization organizations around the world. Within the scope of this project, we attach importance to the presence of Turkish engineers in the development team and we aim to expand the scope of cooperation and seize the opportunity for domestic production. We aim to represent our country in the best way in the international arena by showing the great success of our engineers to the whole world again.”

Net Insight CEO Crister Fritzson, on the other hand, stated that they have signed a long and beneficial cooperation with Türk Telekom in developing technologies that will be adapted to mobile operator networks, adding that “Net Insight and Türk Telekom have strong and unique competence and time synchronization in the field of 5G networks and time synchronization. I would like to point out that you have experience. We believe that this solution, which is operated on the Türk Telekom network for the first time in the world, will break new ground in 5G and have a large and important market potential on a global scale.”

An important step for 5G and beyond technologies

The next generation time synchronization solution, which is not dependent on GPS/GNSS satellites, offers unique advantages for transmitting phase and time synchronization over the network without the need to replace or update existing network equipment. With this technology, a fundamental solution to the signal interruptions and service losses of GPS/GNSS satellites, which is one of the biggest needs of the operators who switch to 5G, will be provided, and the synchronization needs of 2025G technologies, which are planned to start global standardization studies in 6, will also be met. This patented technology developed by Türk Telekom and Net Insight in the field of 5G time and frequency synchronization will be producted and marketed all over the world, including Turkey, and will provide solutions especially for sectors such as telecommunication, energy and finance.
