What is Ovarian Freezing and Who Is It Applied?

Gynecology, Obstetrics and IVF Specialist Op.Dr.Numan Bayazıt gave important information about the subject. While sperm and embryos have been frozen successfully in the past, the same was not the case for eggs. Eggs frozen with the "Slow Freezing" method were not efficient enough when thawed. The situation has changed with the use of the technique called “Vitrification” today. In vitro fertilization procedures with frozen eggs are as successful as fresh eggs. This has led to an increase in the number of women applying for egg freezing.

Egg freezing processes were first used in diseases such as cancer and ovarian tumor, the treatment of which could damage the ovaries. Treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy for any cancer can damage the eggs. Nowadays, women who have not yet married despite their advancing age apply most frequently. Another group is those who postpone pregnancy for career or economic reasons. Recent changes to the regulations also allow women with a family history of early menopause or with weakened ovaries to have this procedure done.

The process is the same as in vitro fertilization until the egg collection stage. Eggs are enlarged with drugs given from the beginning of menstruation. It takes 10-12 days on average. During this period, it is necessary to come 3-4 times for the follow-up of the eggs and once for egg collection. The most important problem with egg freezing is that women resort to this method late. With ice creams made after the age of 37, the rate of having a live child decreases with age. That's why you shouldn't be late.
