'Thematic High School' to be Established in the Field of Nuclear Energy

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that for the first time in Turkey, a thematic high school will be established in order to meet the qualified workforce needed in the field of nuclear energy.

Minister Özer stated that Turkey has accelerated its energy investments in recent years, and its work in the field of nuclear energy has attracted attention.

Underlining that the qualified workforce needed in the nuclear energy field must be trained in order for these investments to yield results as desired, Minister Özer said, as the Ministry, a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Akkuyu Nuclear Anonim Şirketi and Titan 2 IC İçtaş İnşaat Anonim Şirketi Reminds me of signing.

Özer stated that, within the framework of this cooperation, for the first time in Turkey, studies have started for the construction and assembly of the nuclear power plant in institutions providing vocational and technical education, professional certification in this field, and training a qualified workforce with nuclear safety and security culture.

“Within the scope of the studies, two physics lesson teachers working in the Silifke Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Directorate attended the 60-hour Nuclear Energy Introduction Training course held at Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. In addition to these trainings, 'introduction to nuclear energy' started to be given as an elective course in Akdeniz Mersin, Erdemli Ertuğrul, Gülnar, Toroslar Atatürk, Toroslar Mimar Sinan, Tarsus Borsa İstanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools. At Silifke Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, 10 of our students have already started taking the introductory nuclear energy course. In order to make these studies more specific, we, as the Ministry, started to work on opening a thematic vocational and technical Anatolian high school with nuclear energy field. The qualified workforce needed by the nuclear power plants to be established in Turkey, God willing, will grow in this school and our students and teachers here will contribute to the construction of the future.”
