What Was Written in the Montreux Statement?

The statement states, “We are of the opinion that all kinds of discourses and actions that may cause the Montreux Convention to be discussed and brought to the table should be avoided.” Here is the full text of the retired admirals' statement:

*Recently, the Montreux Convention has been opened for discussion within the scope of both Kanal Istanbul and the authority to cancel International Treaties.

* The Turkish Straits are one of the most important waterways in the world and have been managed according to multinational agreements throughout history. Montreux, which is the last of these treaties and protects Turkey's rights in the best way; It is not only a contract regulating the passage through the Turkish Straits, but also a great diplomatic victory that completes the Lausanne Peace Treaty, which restored Turkey's full sovereignty over the Istanbul, Çanakkale, Sea of Marmara and the Straits.

*Montreux is the basic document of the security of the Black Sea riparian countries and is the convention that makes the Black Sea a sea of peace. Montreux is a contract that prevents Turkey from unintentionally entering the war on the side of one of the warring parties in any war.

*Montreux, Turkey's II. It allowed him to maintain his neutrality in World War II. For these and similar reasons, we believe that any discourse or action that may cause the Montreux Convention, which has an important place in Turkey's survival, to be discussed and brought to the table, should be avoided.

*On the other hand; Some unacceptable images, news and discussions in the press and social media in recent days have been a source of deep sadness for those of us who have devoted their lives to this profession.

* In recent years, TAF and especially our Navy; experienced a very conscious FETO attack and sacrificed its valuable staff to these treacherous plots. The most important lesson to be learned from these calipers is; It is imperative that the TAF meticulously maintain the basic values of the constitution that cannot be changed and cannot be changed.

*For these reasons, we condemn the efforts of the Turkish Armed Forces and Naval Forces to go beyond these values and move away from the contemporary route drawn by Atatürk, and we oppose it with all our being.

*Otherwise, the Republic of Turkey may face the risk and threat of experiencing the most dangerous events in history, which are depressed and most dangerous for its survival. It is essential that the personnel of the Naval Forces Command, which has a glorious past that comes from the heart of the Turkish Nation and is the protector of the Mother and Blue Homeland, be trained in line with Atatürk's principles and revolutions.

*We stand by our long-suffering Turkish Marines, who devotedly serve in every corner of our country at sea, on land, in the air, in the internal security zone and beyond the border, and who are working hard on Atatürk's path for the protection of our rights and interests in the Blue Homeland.
