Central Bank: Disinflation Will Be Established in the Second Half of 2024

The agenda of the regular meeting held at the Banks Association of Turkey was the situation of the banking sector, inflation outlook and recent developments in monetary policy.

TBB President Alpaslan Çakar stated that the communication with the Central Bank is at a very good level and expressed his satisfaction with today's useful and constructive meeting.

Mayor Çakar stated that they listened to the evaluations of the Central Bank regarding monetary policy practices and provided him and his team with up-to-date information on sectoral developments. Mayor Çakar emphasized their support for the fight against inflation, which is critical for increasing social welfare and inclusive and sustainable growth, and stated that their expectations for the future of the Turkish economy are positive.

President Karahan stated that disinflation will be established in the second half of 2024 and touched upon the technical details of the functionality of the market mechanism and applications for macro financial stability.

Mayor Karahan said, “We anticipate that our steps towards disinflation will be reflected in financial conditions, demand and pricing behavior. We will maintain tight monetary conditions that will significantly and permanently reduce the underlying trend of monthly inflation. "Our determined stance on monetary policy will enable us to successfully achieve our targeted disinflation path," he said.
