Azerbaijan will give credit to Iran for railway construction: In a special statement to the Trend News Agency, Mahmoud Vaezi, Minister of Communication and Information Technologies of Iran, stated that Azerbaijan will provide a loan of 500 million dollars to Iran for the Resht-Astara railway construction.

Vaezi, evaluating the construction of the Gazvin-Resht-Astara line, which will connect the Azerbaijan and Iran railway networks, said, “The Iranian Gezvin-Resht line has completed 92 percent of the infrastructure. In fact, the withdrawal of the railway will begin soon. We expect the Gezvin-Reşt line to be completed by the end of 2016. " said.

Stating that the feasibility studies for the Resht-Astara line have been completed, the Minister announced that Iran is currently preparing to allocate finance for the construction of the line.

Vaezi: “The construction of the Reşt-Astara line requires approximately $ 1 billion in investment. 500 million dollars of investment will be provided by Azerbaijan as a loan. The loan from Azerbaijan will speed up the construction of the "North-South" transportation corridor. " he spoke.

The Iranian minister stated that the construction of the railway bridge over the Astara River, which was recently laid, was started by Azerbaijan and that the parties will provide half of the project financing.

In addition, the Minister reported that Iran has built a large freight terminal in the city of Astara (Iran).

The bridge will be part of the North-South railway corridor, combining Iran and Azerbaijan railway networks.
