The first session of the Ministry of National Education in the historical First Parliament building on April 23, 1920 was revived by the students in the "Special Session of April 23".

Celebrations of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day and the 104th anniversary of the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly continue with enthusiasm.

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin also attended the "23 April Special Session" event organized by the Ministry of National Education for the first time this year. At the event, 81 students from 115 provinces recreated the first session on April 23, 1920.

The students, who came together in the historical First Assembly with period-specific costumes, opened the First Grand National Assembly, representing the will of the Turkish nation, accompanied by prayers.

In the session, which started with the opening speeches of Sinop Deputy Mehmet Şerif Bey, who was elected as the President of the Parliament as the oldest member, and Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the students portrayed 115 deputies of the period.

Students, who experienced the spiritual atmosphere of those days in the parliament rows, re-emphasized that although the parliament was established under armistice conditions, it did not compromise on democracy.

Minister Tekin attended the representative "2071 Session" where children took the floor in the historical Parliament building.

After the first session, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin attended the representative "2071 April 23 Special Session" in the historical First Parliament building, where he gave speeches about what would happen in the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 2071 and what kind of situation he imagined the nation would be in those days.

He added: "Speaking here is more difficult than speaking in the Parliament." Tekin started by saying, and explained that within the scope of the 23 April events, they organized the 23 April 1920 session with children in the historical Parliament building in the morning and the 2071 session in the afternoon, and that this had two main purposes.

Tekin pointed out that the Ministry of National Education has the duty of raising young generations on the difficulties with which the country was founded, what kind of sacrifices the founders of the country made, how they fought against great structures and great powers, the patriotism of their ancestors, the consciousness of serving the nation, and how to act to protect the country. He stated that the simulation for the first session they held on April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day was made to fulfill this task.

Explaining that it is their duty to raise the children entrusted to them around reference values, while also ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary equipment for the world we live in, Tekin continued: "As the Ministry of National Education, we try not to let our past be forgotten, and also to ensure that our children take care of this homeland entrusted to us." We strive to raise them in the best way possible. In our session, we discussed how our friends, who will become members of parliament approximately 50 years later, or even if they do not become responsible members of the society, should be raised in a sensitive and respectful manner to the issues of the country and the problems of the nation, and to be able to produce solutions.”

Stating that the children who spoke before him expressed their opinions on certain topics that will be the main discussion topics of the country today, perhaps 50 years later, Tekin expressed that he believes that this experience will leave an impact on their future lives and that they will grow up more sensitive to the problems of the country.

In his speech, Minister Tekin talked about the historical events related to the First Parliament building and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey.

Pointing out that the First Parliament building was opened by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his friends with prayers on April 23, 1920, Tekin said that the roof of the building was repaired with the tiles that the people of Ankara brought from their homes, and the desks were moved from the teacher's school.

Emphasizing that they carried out the struggle for independence in a war environment where the MPs of the period were in danger of death, Tekin said, “That's why we made this simulation. If it weren't for those who work here, those who wage that struggle, you wouldn't be here, we wouldn't be here. All our martyrs, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, entrusted this country to us. May their souls rest in peace, may they rest in peace, may God be pleased with them.” he said.

Underlining that it is their duty to raise children as individuals with these values, Tekin said, “We made April 23 an occasion for this. "We know that we know our part to raise you to embrace these values, we are making an effort to do so, and we do everything from the publicly discussed curriculum changes to the efforts of our teacher friends in this regard, so that you can protect these values." he said.
