Alstom to Manufacture in India for Kanpur Metro

Alstom, the global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, today celebrated the commencement of revenue service of the extended section of Corridor I of Kanpur Metro and the addition of five new stations. Kanpur’s all-India metros are equipped with an advanced communication-based train control (CBTC) system to provide safe, reliable and sustainable mobility to passengers. With the addition of five underground stations of Kanpur Metro, this extended corridor will provide greater access and convenience to the city’s passengers.

Strong Partnership with UPMRC and “Make in India” Vision

Alstom to provide total investment for Agra-Kanpur metro project 201 subway cars (67 three-car train sets) and builds and delivers an advanced signalling solution. These trains were designed at Alstom’s engineering centre in Hyderabad, while the signalling solution was developed in Gurugram, India and Bangkok, Thailand. The metro trains are designed by Alstom 'Make in India' ve 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) initiatives, manufactured at its state-of-the-art facility in Savli, Gujarat. The first train set was delivered by Alstom to Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) in Kanpur in September 2021. So far, 40 trains are running successfully in the city, carrying around 960 passengers in a three-coach configuration.

State-of-the-art Rolling Stock and Signalling Solution for Kanpur

The new metro trains offer a sustainable and environment-friendly alternative to other modes of transport. It will benefit approximately 4,5 million people living in Kanpur city and the overall project will contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the region.

Inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Uttar Pradesh has been combined with best-in-class design to create an attractive metro train set. Kanpur’s Metro offers an accessible and welcoming experience for passengers. The air-conditioned coaches feature automatic sliding doors, comfortable seating and standing areas, special areas for passengers with reduced mobility and modern passenger information systems.

At speeds up to 80 km/h Alstom’s Kanpur metro trains are built with strong stainless steel bodies and a modular and aerodynamic design that meet the highest safety, security and environmental standards. They are equipped with Flexx bogies and Mitrac propulsion system that increase energy efficiency and reduce operating costs through regenerative braking. The trains are Communication Based Train Control System (CBTC) for Automatic Train Operations With over 30 years of expertise in CBTC technology and over 32 metro lines equipped in over 190 countries, Alstom's CBTC technology addresses today's worldwide mobility challenges and provides passengers with smooth, connected mobility in times of increasing transportation needs.
