Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner General of the United Nations' UNRWA, made a strong statement regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Lazzarini said the practices against civilians struggling with hunger had become a “systematic inhumane treatment”.
In his statement, Lazzarini stated that hundreds of civilians had lost their lives in recent weeks during aid activities carried out by private security companies known as the "Gaza Humiliation Foundation" and described these practices as "a fake humanitarian aid system based on lies, deception and cruelty".
Lazzarini said, “Inviting hungry people to die is a war crime. Those responsible for this system must be held accountable.” Lazzarini also emphasized that humanitarian aid principles must be reestablished and that experts must be able to perform their duties with respect and human dignity.
UNRWA Commissioner General stated that the events have created a deep wound in the conscience of the international community and said, "Humanitarian aid should not be a deception; it should be a tool to protect life."
