Republican People's Party (CHP) Trabzon Deputy and Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Secretary Lawyer Sibel Suiçmez asked Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu at the TBMM General Assembly when the Trabzon-Erzincan Railway Project, which has been on the agenda for a long time, will start. Suiçmez said, “I am asking clearly once again. When will the Trabzon-Erzincan Railway start? Give a date and explain the calendar.”
“Trabzon Awaits Action, Not Delay”
MP Suiçmez stated in his statement in the Parliament that he had been asking this question for months, but Minister Uraloğlu avoided answering and turned the route to the Samsun-Sarp High Speed Train Project. Emphasizing that Trabzon is not just a city, but a regional power with its historical ports, Suiçmez stated that the Erzincan connection means the city's direct integration with Anatolia and the opening of the Black Sea's production capacity to domestic markets and the world.
Suiçmez expressed his reaction by saying, “Despite this, the Minister does not say a single word about the Trabzon-Erzincan Railway, which has been promised for years in every election period but has never been started.” At the end of his statement, he emphasized that the project should start as soon as possible with the words, “Trabzon is no longer waiting for delay, but for action. We want to see rails, not words.”
This call once again brought to the agenda the uncertainty about the future of the railway connection, which is of great importance for the Eastern Black Sea Region.
