Polish railway companies Pesa and FPS have launched large-scale locomotive projects aimed at upgrading rolling stock for both Poland and other European countries. These projects aim to strengthen Poland’s position in the railway engineering sector by focusing on different segments.
Gamma 3.0 Locomotives and Increasing Export Potential from Pesa
Pesa, First prototypes of electric locomotives based on the Gamma 3.0 platform These new locomotive projects, which are a continuation of the series introduced in 2012, both passenger and freight models These units will operate with overhead catenary systems and multi-system capability will present.
Engineers also added options for auxiliary low-power diesel engines or onboard batteries to provide flexibility on unelectrified rail sections. Gamma 3.0 top speed 200–230 km/h To achieve this high speed, the bogies and hull structure will be significantly redesigned.
Pesa will deliver new electric locomotives not only to Poland, but also to Czech Republic, Romania and Bulgaria This was confirmed by Sales Director Piotr Rosciszewski and shows that Pesa is expanding its export potential in the European market.
FPS Revives Production of Six-Axle Diesel Locomotives
At the same time, FPS announced its intention to revive the production of six-axle diesel locomotives. This project will be based on designs from the 1980s but redesigned to meet modern requirements. FPS President Grzegorz Kucia stated that the development is currently in the market analysis and technical planning phase. It is estimated that the start of series production will take at least two years.
New locomotives Power ranging from 2,5 to 3 MW is expected to provide. Additional technical specifications have not yet been announced.
Pesa and FPS’ focus on different segments makes these locomotive projects complementary. These strategic moves will further strengthen Poland’s position in the railway engineering sector and make a significant contribution to the European railway network.
