Waste Collection Competition in Osmangazi Concluded

Osmangazi Municipality organized an Inter-School Waste Collection Competition with Awards in order to create zero waste awareness among students. A total of 46 tons of waste was collected in the competition. The 3 schools that collected the most waste were awarded at the ceremony.

The Inter-School Award-Winning Waste Collection Competition, organized by the Osmangazi Municipality Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate with the aim of leaving a cleaner, more livable environment for future generations and creating environmental and zero waste awareness in students, has ended. In the competition held among kindergartens, primary schools and high schools in the district, students competed to collect the most waste. 01 kilograms of mixed packaging waste, 2025 kilograms of waste batteries, 30 kilograms of vegetable waste oil and 2025 kilograms of e-waste were collected by the students who participated in the competition held between February 41, 159 and May 2, 078.

Thanks to the waste collected within the scope of the competition, 390 trees were cut down, 1 million 844 thousand cubic meters of water and 790 acres of agricultural land were prevented from being polluted. The award ceremony of the competition was held at the Osmangazi Show Center. Before the award ceremony, students drew attention to the importance of recycling with clothes and handicrafts they made from recycled materials such as used cardboard plates and cups, worn wedding dresses, waste curtains, garbage bags, and lecture notes.

Ayşe Hafsa Sultan Kindergarten came first, Başaran Primary School came second and Hüseyin Karabacak Primary School came third in the competition. The awards and plaques of the schools that won were presented by Osmangazi Deputy Mayor Mücahit Yıldızhan.

Expressing that they are working for a cleaner and more livable Osmangazi as Osmangazi Municipality, Yıldızhan said, “We prevent environmental pollution by collecting recyclable paper, plastic, metal, glass, vegetable oil, electronics, fluorescent, battery, and medicine waste from 136 neighborhoods within our district borders with 18 vehicles and 48 personnel 6 days a week. We also contribute to the national economy. Within the framework of sustainable development principles, we provide waste management with an integrated approach in order to control our waste and leave a clean, developed country and a livable world for future generations.”
