New Train Sets Enter Service on Jakarta Metro

KAI Commuter plans to deploy eight new electric train sets with a total of 96 carriages to replace old units and upgrade Commuter Line services across the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area. The move comes as part of the company’s efforts to modernize and improve passenger services.

New Train Sets Supplied from CRRC and INKA

KAI Commuter is part of China’s rolling stock improvement initiative Seven from CRRC and Indonesia One from PT INKA company received a train set. Each set consists of 12 vehicles, and a total of 96 new vehicles are delivered as part of a phased delivery programme January 30 – May 22, 2025 was delivered between the dates.

The company confirmed that the final delivery from CRRC (two sets) arrived on 23 May 2025. These additions will replace trains that have reached the end of their operational life.

Operational Testing Phase and Future Plans

In addition to the existing fleet, the company has purchased a total of 324 wagons Ordered 27 more train sets. These will be sourced from both local and international manufacturers. KAI Commuter expects the new trains to be in operation soon after test approval. The move aims to modernize the fleet and improve passenger services at Jabodetabek.
