Iran Maintains Strike Force Despite Commander Loss

Iran's continued missile attacks on Israel show Tehran's forces are able to regroup despite Israel killing many of its military commanders in its initial strikes, an analyst told CNN.

“After the Israelis were very successful in targeting senior Iranian military leaders and killing several of them, they underestimated Iran’s ability to regroup,” said Trita Parsi, vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft.

Parsi said Israel thought it had “disrupted Iran’s command and control system,” but that idea was “quickly reframed.”

What we are seeing now, Parsi noted, is that “Iranian missiles have successfully penetrated all layers of Israel’s air defense systems.”

Parsi spoke to CNN early Monday morning as a new wave of Iranian missile attacks unfolded.

Casualties are mounting on both sides as Iran and Israel expand their attacks. Explosions and fires were seen throughout the night in Israel, with residential buildings hit, as residents of Tehran tried to flee the capital in search of safety.

Some context: Iran’s top military officer, the commander of the elite Revolutionary Guard Corps and air force, and former national security chief were killed last week in Israel’s unprecedented “Operation Rising Lion.”
