Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a statement about the Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT) system developed and operated by Türksat. Emphasizing that the system strengthens Türkiye's sovereignty at sea within the framework of digital security, Minister Uraloğlu said, "Thanks to Türksat's domestic and national technology, our eyes on the seas are always open."
“Türksat Established a Digital Fortress in the Seas”
Uraloğlu, who explained that thanks to the LRIT system developed by Türksat with domestic resources, Turkish flagged ships can be monitored instantly from any point in the world, emphasized that the system, which allows all other ships to be monitored within a polygon up to a thousand nautical miles from Turkish territorial waters, is not just a tracking application.
Minister Uraloğlu said, “This system undertakes duties in many strategic areas, from tracking marine accidents to search and rescue operations and environmental security. It would not be an exaggeration to say that we have established a digital fortress in the seas.”
“Success has been confirmed in the international arena”
Uraloğlu underlined that the system developed by Türksat received full marks in the inspections conducted by the International Maritime Organization (IMSO) every year, and said, “With our current infrastructure, we have also carried the cyber security of the LRIT system above world standards. This positive evaluation we have received in the international arena is a reflection of Türkiye’s maritime vision.”
Minister Uraloğlu also touched on the mobile tracking capabilities offered by Türksat, saying, “Today, information such as a ship’s location, cargo status, and port docking time can be tracked instantly. This technological infrastructure is one of the most concrete examples of Türkiye’s digital transformation at sea.”
“The System Works 7/24, the Seas Are Safe”
Minister Uraloğlu, who noted that with the Türksat LRIT system, all movements in Türkiye’s search and rescue area are monitored on a single platform, said, “Ship information, navigation routes, passenger, cargo data of 300 gross tons and above and many other information are now collected in a single system. Our seas are under surveillance 7/24. Turkish flagged ships are under our surveillance, no matter where they are in the world. Türksat, our eye on the seas, has also become the guarantee of security. Because this infrastructure shortens our response time in times of crisis and significantly increases the security in our seas.”
Stating that infrastructure is of critical importance for both national and international maritime transportation, Uraloğlu also underlined that the LRIT system developed by Türksat is the reflection of Türkiye's digital sovereignty vision at sea.
