Fire Detection Dog 'Bronze' in Action

The fire detection dog “Bronze”, assigned to the Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command, plays an active role in solving arson suspicions in residence, workplace and forest fires.

After completing training at the Nevşehir Gendarmerie Horse and Dog Training Center Command, 8 dogs were sent to the Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command and trained in 15 different branches, including mine detection, bomb detection, public order, tracking, search, fire, drugs and cadaver, and are working alongside law enforcement forces.

Dogs, which are used when deemed necessary by the gendarmerie in operations throughout the city, make a significant contribution to ensuring peace and security with their keen scenting abilities.

The dogs, who are given obedience and search training by the staff on the fitness track and in other areas, are given various reward games.

Enables Detection of Crimes and Criminals in Fire

A 4-year-old fire detection dog named “Bronze”, who started working within the Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command, supports personnel in determining the cause of fires thought to be suspicious. German shepherd dog “Bronze” has been playing an important role in solving suspicious fires for approximately 2,5 years.

Thanks to the training it has received, “Bronze” can quickly detect the smell of flammable and combustible materials in the fire area and, after cooling and extinguishing efforts, it scouts the fire site.

“Bronze” responds to its trainer by lying down on the area where a flammable or combustible material has been spilled in the fire zone. Thus, if signs of arson or similar are detected in the fire, it allows crime scene investigation teams to conduct more detailed work in the area and to identify the crime and criminals.

“He Successfully Completed the 14-Week Training and Started His Duty”

Dog trainer Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Oğuzhan Uğur said that there are 4 fire detection dogs throughout Türkiye.

Uğur stated that “Bronze”, who successfully completed the training, was assigned to the Provincial Gendarmerie Command and continued as follows:

“Fire detection dog Bronze is used to detect the point of origin of a fire and plays an active role in finding crimes and criminals. Bronze successfully completed 14 weeks of training on flammable materials at the Gendarmerie Horse and Dog Training Center Command and started working at the Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command. There are 4 fire detection dogs on active duty at the Gendarmerie General Command throughout Turkey and they actively work in all fire incidents such as forest fires, workplaces, factories, house extensions and similar. Bronze is used to determine the point of origin of all fires suspected of arson based on the intensity of the odor.”
