Bornova Municipality brought environmental awareness, recycling awareness and sustainable life together with events at the “Bornova Environment Festival” organized in Büyükpark.
At the festival, which set out with the slogan “Our energy comes from nature”, many creative activities from carbon footprint measurement to composting, from solar oven construction to waste-to-art transformation workshops met with the people of Bornova. In the area where surprise gifts were distributed to participants who brought recyclable waste such as batteries and waste oil, the “Self-Watering Flowerpot Workshop” for children was highly appreciated, while the “Living Dresses Exhibition” brought together fashion and environmental awareness.
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki drew attention to the fact that environmental awareness is a responsibility that should be experienced not only on special days but also at all times. Stating that the environmental struggle is not only the right of today but also of future generations, Mayor Eşki said, “As Bornova Municipality, we are taking exemplary steps in recycling, climate justice and sustainability. Today, we listened to nature together with civil society, youth and children. We are starting an environmental movement from Bornova that will be an example for all of Türkiye.”
President Eşki also said, “Local governments are the most critical actors in the applicability of environmental policies. That is why we are ambitious not only in rhetoric but also in practice,” and added that they will implement new projects that will strengthen the green transformation infrastructure in Bornova.
