
Working with the goal of a healthy and happy city, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality celebrated June 21st World Yoga Day with an extraordinary event. Hundreds of Izmir residents bid farewell to the sun by doing yoga on the ferry on the longest day of the year.
The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department, with the contribution of İZDENİZ, organized an unforgettable event. This time, the Hasan Tahsin Arabalı Ferry hosted an extraordinary event. 21 Izmir residents, who met on the ferry for June 400st World Yoga Day, bid farewell to the longest day of the year with yoga in the middle of the sea. Setting off from the Bostanlı Ferry Pier to the Gulf and setting off towards the sunset, Izmir residents collected unforgettable memories with yoga instructor Beste Elvanlı.
The goal is a healthy city
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department Head Anıl Kaçar stated that they are working with the goal of a healthy city and said, “Under the leadership of our İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay, we are working to create a healthy city. Today, we are holding one of those events. There were nearly 2 applications for the event announcement in 600 days, but the ferry’s capacity is limited to 450 people. We will continue our work with the goal of a healthy and happy city dweller.”
“We held the most beautiful event”
Yoga instructor Beste Elvanlı also expressed that she found this excitement in Izmir incredible and said, “We made the Izmir spirit live. The sea on my right and left. We are under the sky and we are doing yoga on the ferry. We have organized the most beautiful event that can be done on World Yoga Day. I would like to thank both Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and İZDENİZ very much.” Touching on the importance of yoga, Elvanlı said, “Everyone who wants to manage themselves and take control of themselves should do yoga. They should definitely do it, especially in such a period.”
One of the participants, Eylem Nartaş, said, “I never thought such an event would be held on a ferry. It was a very nice event.” Buse Celep, who stated that she used İZDENİZ ferries and boats a lot as a means of transportation, said, “It was a very nice event. I did not expect it to be this nice. The wind is different, the sea is different… Everything was very nice and enjoyable.”

Tuğba Yıldız also said that she really liked the event. Yıldız said, “We did yoga at sunset. It was great. We had a lot of fun. We are waiting for more events like this. It was a memorable and unforgettable event. I have attended events held on the beach before. I have also attended yoga events in other places. But this was the first time that there was a yoga event on a ferry. It was a great experience. It was very enjoyable to feel the sound of the wind while doing yoga.”
“An unusual event”
Elida Ceylan, who stated that she had very nice and enjoyable moments, stated that it was very enjoyable to experience yoga in the middle of the sea. Lamia Abbaszade also said that she was very stressed when she came to the event but she relaxed a lot at the end of the program and that yoga was very good for her. Abbaszade said, “It was a great experience. It was an event out of the ordinary. When the sea and yoga came together, a wonderful atmosphere emerged.”
