Electricity Generation from Waves Begins in Ordu

Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler has achieved another first. A pioneer in Türkiye's renewable energy efforts, Mayor Güler has pressed the button for electricity generation from waves on the shores of Ordu.

Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler's long-standing experience continues to shape the future of Ordu. In 2007, the first attempt to generate electricity from sea waves was made in the Karasu district of Sakarya, and the dream of that day was realized in Ordu today under the leadership of Mayor Güler.

THE STUDIES HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL

Ordu Metropolitan Municipality subsidiary OREN A.Ş. brought the 100 kW capacity linear generator prototype, which it developed in collaboration with Scotland-based advanced technology company Zeox, to Ordu. The prototype, which was placed on the platform established on the shore of Kirazlimanı Life Center, was prepared with all its technical infrastructure and was put into operation for the first time and yielded successful results. Thus, electricity generation from waves was realized for the first time in Ordu.

“THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING”

President Güler, who shared a post on his social media account regarding the issue, said, “The dream we laid the foundations of years ago in Karasu has become a reality in Ordu. This is just the beginning. We are moving towards bigger goals.”

TARGET IS BIG

The project, which was first tested and achieved success, has big goals. Improvements will be made in the future and most of the system components will be provided by domestic production. Thus, the technical infrastructure will be strengthened in the project, and it is aimed to be the first country to produce electricity from sea waves and sell it to the national grid.
