Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek has been receiving treatment in intensive care for over 57 hours after being electrocuted while attending to an electrical fault in his home's pool. Zeyrek, who was exposed to electric current for three minutes, is still in serious condition.
Ferdi Zeyrek's Latest Situation:
Zeyrek's treatment continues in intensive care and he continues to live with a device.
Doctors state that there is serious organ damage and that efforts to repair these are ongoing. It is emphasized that the process is quite difficult.
It was announced that the oxygen level in Zeyrek's blood had improved.
The hospital’s chief physician, Prof. Dr. İsmet Topçu, said in his statement yesterday, “Treatment support continues. This process is a dynamic process, it can change at any time.” He noted that the situation was stable but that “the damage is great.”
It was stated that all physicians and ministry-supported scientists made intense efforts and that consultations were held on the direction of treatment.
Doctors are expected to make a new statement at 11.00:XNUMX today.
Development of the Incident and Initial Investigation Findings: While Ferdi Zeyrek was trying to fix a problem in the engine room of his pool at home, he was electrocuted due to an electrical leak. After the incident, Zeyrek, whose heart stopped, was given basic life support for 20-25 minutes and taken to the hospital. Despite the interventions made in the hospital, the cardiac arrest was resistant, but a response was received to resuscitation in the 50th minute and his heart rhythm returned. Zeyrek, who was taken to intensive care without wasting any time, responded positively to the interventions there, but his life continues to be in danger.
The Manisa Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident and assigned a panel of experts. The panel conducted an examination of Zeyrek's home yesterday evening. According to a statement made by Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç on his social media account, technical malfunctions that caused electrical leaks in the pool's electrical installation and protection systems were detected in the initial examinations. Within the scope of the investigation, information was sought from 12 people, including those responsible for the pool's maintenance and repair and the fire department personnel who carried out the first intervention, and statements were taken from 2 people as suspects.
Chamber of Electrical Engineers President Mahir Ulutaş also stated that according to the first findings, there was rust in the electrical installation and protection elements, and that there were serious problems in the electrical room design that were not suitable for wet areas. He drew attention to the fact that there was a leak in the motor due to intense humidity and that the protection equipment was not doing its job.
Statement from CHP Chairman Özgür Özel: CHP Chairman Özgür Özel came to the hospital and received information about Ferdi Zeyrek’s health condition. Özel, who stated that the incident occurred at around 23.35:70 during the intervention to a malfunction in the pool motor, said that they hoped that oxygen was reaching his brain except for the first 6-7 minutes of the 70-minute intervention. Özel said, “After 70 minutes, his pulse, which came a few times at a time, returned. His heart started beating. Right now, his heart is beating quite well, it works without any support. We all hope for a miracle to happen. In fact, the miracle happened XNUMX minutes later when the heart started working.” Özel emphasized that it would be clear later whether there was any damage to his brain functions.
Get Well Wishes from Statesmen: Following the development, President Recep Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli called Özgür Özel and conveyed their wishes for a speedy recovery to Ferdi Zeyrek.
