Motor Vehicle Statistics in Türkiye

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced important data on motor vehicles to the public. The statistics for May provide a detailed look at the status of motor vehicles. According to this data, the number of vehicles registered for traffic decreased by 9,5% compared to the same month last year, falling to 210. However, there was a 295% increase in the number of vehicles that were deregistered, reaching 54,8. This situation caused the total number of vehicles in traffic to increase by 4.

Distribution by Vehicle Types

In May, 44,8% of the vehicles registered were motorcycles, 41,4% were cars, 8,5% were light trucks, 2,6% were tractors, 1,6% were trucks, 0,7% were minibuses, 0,3% were buses and 0,1% were special purpose vehicles. These data show the variety of motor vehicles in Türkiye and the preferences of users. In addition, there was a 9,5% increase in the number of vehicles registered compared to the previous month.

Distribution of Automobile Registrations by Brand

The distribution of automobiles registered in May by brand is also striking. Of the automobiles registered, 9,8% were Renault, 7,7% Volkswagen, 7,2% Fiat, 7,1% Toyota, 6,7% Peugeot, 5,9% Hyundai, 5,6% BYD, 4,8% Opel, 4,5% Skoda, 3,3% Citroen, 2,8% Mercedes-Benz, 2,8% Audi, 2,8% Ford, 2,8% Chery, 2,6% Kia, 2,6% BMW, 1,9% Nissan, 1,7% Dacia, 1,6% Cupra, 1,6% Mini and 13,9% other brands. This data reveals competition in the automobile market and consumer preferences.

Increase in Total Number of Vehicles

As of May, the number of vehicles registered in Türkiye increased by 8,02% compared to the same period of the previous year, from 29 million 791 thousand 66 to 32 million 182 thousand 121. This situation shows the increase in the use of motor vehicles in Türkiye. As of the end of May, 51,8% of the vehicles registered in Turkey were cars, 20,4% were motorcycles, 14,9% were pickup trucks, 7,1% were tractors, 3,2% were trucks, 1,6% were minibuses, 0,7% were buses and 0,3% were special purpose vehicles.

Transfer Procedures and Deregistration Rates

The total number of vehicles transferred in May was recorded as 960. Of these vehicles, 640% were cars, 67,2% were pickup trucks, 14,7% were motorcycles, 11,3% were tractors, 2,7% were trucks, 1,9% were minibuses, 1,6% were buses and 0,4% were special purpose vehicles. In addition, the number of vehicles deregistered from traffic increased by 0,2% during this period, reaching 64,5. These data show the dynamics of vehicle ownership and the mobility of the market.

Fuel Distribution of Car Types

The distribution of 435 automobiles registered in the January-May period by fuel type is as follows: 480% gasoline, 47,3% hybrid, 28,1% electric, 14,1% diesel and 9,6% LPG-fueled automobiles. This situation shows the increasing importance of electric and hybrid vehicles in Türkiye, while also revealing the continued use of conventionally powered vehicles. As of the end of May, the fuel types of the 0,9 automobiles registered in the traffic are 16% diesel, 667% LPG, 473% gasoline, 33,5% hybrid and 31,2% electric.

Car Color Distribution and Engine Cylinder Volume

The color distribution of cars registered in the January-May period is also quite interesting. Of the cars registered in this period, 40,4% were gray, 25,1% were white, 12,7% were black, 11,7% were blue, 4,6% were green, 4% were red, 0,6% were brown, 0,5% were yellow, 0,3% were orange, and 0,1% were other colors. In addition, the distribution of cars according to their engine cylinder volume is as follows: 31,3% had an engine cylinder volume of 1300 and below, 24,4% were 1401-1500, 11,2% were 1501-1600, 10% were 1301-1400, 8,5% were 1601-2000, and 0,6% were 2001 and above.
