Türkiye's Endangered Voices Meet

For the first time in the world, nature recordings of endangered birds and traditional instruments that are on the verge of extinction have been brought together in the same album. The album, which will be released on May 22, World Biodiversity Day, is not only an auditory experience, but also a call to cultural and ecological memory.

The development process of the album also led to the birth of a new group called the Bird Collective. The Bird Collective aims to make nature and biodiversity visible through art, to convey the voices of birds to wider audiences and to weave a network of awareness and solidarity around these voices.

Implemented with the support of Borusan Sustainable Benefits Program and carried out by Yaz Güvendi “Türkiye’s Endangered Voices” The album, which will be released as part of the project, features the sounds of 31 endangered bird species that live in Türkiye's forests, mountains, steppes, wetlands and seas. The birds featured in the album include species such as the European partridge, the common pochard and the white-headed duck.

Each track begins with the call of a bird and is matched with appropriate instruments to match that sound. The compositions consisting of these sounds turned into an album. Among the instruments that are on the verge of extinction were the çeng sazı and five similar instruments dating back to before Christ. Both bird watchers and musicians worked together on the project. Each piece in the album was composed by a different musician: Akın Orbay, Can Saka, Kerem Feyzi, Murat Küçükarslan, Turgut Mavuk are among the musicians on the album.

Beyond being a bridge between nature and art, the album aims to draw attention to endangered species and make a creative contribution to nature conservation efforts.

The album will be available on all digital music platforms starting May 22.
