
The “International Excavation, Research and Archaeometry Symposium”, one of the world's most distinguished archaeological meetings that aims to carry Türkiye's cultural heritage to the future in the light of scientific data, will bring scientists together in Mersin this year.
The symposium, which is followed with excitement by the archaeology world and will be held for the 45th time this year, will shed light on the cultural past by bringing together academia, science and field studies on the same platform.
The symposium, which will be organized by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in cooperation with Mersin University, will be held between May 26-30 at Prof. Dr. Uğur ORAL Culture Center.
During the symposium, the results of archaeological excavations, surface surveys and archaeometric studies carried out by Turkish and foreign scientists with the permission of the Ministry throughout 2024 will be shared.
The symposium, which will bring together scientists from all over the world, will begin with the opening ceremony on May 26 at 10.30.
Five Days, Five Halls, Hundreds of Papers
At the meeting, a total of 270 papers will be presented, including 96 excavation results, 66 research results and 432 archaeometry results, with sessions to be held in five separate halls.
11 scientists from 31 different countries will contribute 32 papers to the symposium.
During the symposium, promotion and sales stands will be opened by publishing houses, scientific organizations and private companies working in the field of archaeology.
As every year, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums will make the papers presented at the symposium accessible to researchers in e-book format.
The symposium, which has been hosted by 17 different universities to date and has been organized in different cities with the contributions of universities since 2004, is considered one of the most respected scientific archaeology meetings not only in Türkiye but in the world.
