Ordu Lands Greened with Buckwheat with Purchase Guarantee

Buckwheat, one of the guaranteed purchase products implemented by Ordu Metropolitan Municipality with the vision of a “self-sufficient city”, has grown successfully in Ordu lands. In addition to being an important source of nutrition for those with gluten sensitivity, interest in buckwheat, which also contributes to agriculture and animal husbandry, has increased even more this year after the successful first planting last year. With the efforts of producers who have converted their idle lands to agriculture with the seed and machinery support of the Metropolitan Municipality, the amount of idle land opened to agriculture has reached 34 acres.

President Guler's Agriculture Vision Bears Fruits

Agricultural investments initiated under the leadership of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler are growing with the aim of bringing idle agricultural lands into the economy, diversifying the income sources of rural producers and generating more income per unit area. These projects, implemented in line with Mayor Güler's "self-sufficient city" goal, are reviving Ordu's agricultural potential.

Buckwheat Adapted to Ordu

Last year, under the leadership of the Metropolitan Municipality, the first trial buckwheat planting was carried out in order to create an alternative source of income for producers and to contribute to production in the domestic market. Buckwheat, for which the Metropolitan Municipality provided a purchase guarantee, quickly adapted to the fertile soil of Ordu, and the high yields obtained made producers happy.

Production Areas Expanded with Seed and Machinery Support

Following last year’s successful harvest, producers’ satisfaction with buckwheat production has significantly increased interest in buckwheat this year. Many producers, especially in the Mesudiye district, have started planting buckwheat on their idle lands by taking advantage of the seed support provided by the Metropolitan Municipality. The fact that buckwheat is a flowering plant and that it also contributes positively to beekeeping activities has led producers engaged in beekeeping to turn to buckwheat planting. This year, buckwheat production area in Ordu has reached 545 acres.

On the other hand, the modern Agricultural Machinery Park established within the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality has also made the work of producers much easier. By using these machines, producers have been able to carry out planting operations faster and at lower costs and have the opportunity to produce in large areas. With this comprehensive support from Mayor Güler in the field of agriculture, the amount of idle land brought to agriculture since 2019 has reached a remarkable figure of 34 acres.

Thanks to President Guler from the Producers

Producers engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry and beekeeping in Mesudiye district and planting buckwheat this year expressed their satisfaction with the seed and agricultural machinery support provided by the Metropolitan Municipality. Producers, who expressed their satisfaction with learning that buckwheat is also an important product for bees, stated that this will also make significant contributions to beekeeping activities. Producers, who emphasized that the purchase guarantee of the Metropolitan Municipality gives them great confidence, thanked Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler for all this support.

Products Purchase Guaranteed

The harvests obtained from the buckwheat seeds distributed by the Metropolitan Municipality with a purchase guarantee will be purchased by the Metropolitan Municipality, as in many other agricultural projects. This purchase guarantee supports the sustainability of buckwheat production in Ordu by providing producers with the opportunity to produce without any concerns about marketing.
