Ordu Bioinnovation Center Begins a New Era in Agriculture

The first and only Bioinnovation Center of the Black Sea Region was established by Ordu Metropolitan Municipality. Innovative studies initiated by Mayor Güler in the field of agriculture continue to add value to the city. The Bioinnovation Center, which continues its activities in Akpınar Neighborhood of Ulubey district by Ordu Metropolitan Municipality in order to support new ideas and contribute to the development of agriculture, both fills an important gap in the transition to modern agriculture and provides a suitable laboratory environment for entrepreneurs.

Mayor Güler, who examined the center together with Ordu Governor Muammer Erol, Provincial Agriculture Director Kemal Yılmaz and Ulubey District Governor Esra Demirtaş, gave information about the facility to his guests.

Leader in Heirloom Seeds Protection and Seedling Production

Making statements about the work done by the Bioinnovation Center, President Güler said that they have carried out many studies from ancestral seeds to aromatic plants, from soilless agriculture to fertilizer production.

“Our Bioinnovation Center, which we established by transforming the abandoned school building in Ulubey Akpınar, brings together science, technology and production in agriculture. In our tissue culture laboratory, More than 40 thousand saplings of species such as blueberry, lavender, aronia and orchid were produced. Studies are ongoing for 19 different species. At our Ata Seed Center We protect 75 species and 252 varieties of ancestral seeds."

Comprehensive Production from Soilless Agriculture to Waste Utilization

President Güler pointed out that the center is not limited to just seed and sapling production. In addition to vertical farming activities, fertilizer production and waste oil utilization He stated that they are carrying out innovative work in many areas such as.

President Güler summarized the multifaceted activities of the center as follows:

“We are conducting soilless production trials with vegetables such as tomatoes, broccoli, and kale in our vertical and horizontal farming modules. Summer and winter vegetables and medicinal plants are being tested in our greenhouses and trial plots. In our distillation unit, oil is produced from plants such as lavender, geranium and rosemary. Indoor production has begun in our plant factory. Tests are being conducted in the greenhouse for the adaptation of seedlings produced through tissue culture. We produce natural fertilizer from pruning and organic waste in 24 hours with our compost machine. Pellet production from hazelnut shells has been successfully completed. Also, We develop natural products such as soft soap from waste oils and creams, shampoos and deodorants from medicinal plants. Rosehip drink production continues. We are bringing young people together with the future of agriculture with university students doing internships at our center and high school and BİLSEM students carrying out TÜBİTAK projects.”
