German carmaker Opel has launched its new electric Frontera model, which had its global press launch in Istanbul last year with a large turnout, in Türkiye. The new Opel Frontera, which meets consumers with prices starting from 1.345.000 TL, draws attention with its dimensions close to the C-SUV segment. The new Opel Frontera, which will be sold with two different equipment levels as of May, is offered to customers with the Edition and GS options. Consumers will be able to choose the GS-equipped and fully electric Frontera Electric model, as well as the new Frontera Hybrid model with 48V hybrid technology with the Edition or GS equipment options.
Commenting on the new Frontera, Opel Brand Director Yiğit Yantaç said:
“The new Opel Frontera, which returned to the field after the first two generations, is the newest and most ambitious player in the B-SUV segment. Frontera offers an experience close to the C-SUV segment. With its simple design, large volume and functional solutions, Frontera will appeal to different customer groups and is ready to accompany both family and individual users in all their daily adventures.”
The name Frontera was first given to Opel’s first SUV in 1991, and this vehicle took its place in automotive history as one of the pioneers of the SUV revolution. Today, the new Frontera stands out as a modern SUV that draws attention at first glance, strongly reflecting Opel’s bold and simple design language. With its unique front silhouette and functional and spacious interior, the new Frontera offers a practical SUV experience by combining aesthetics and robustness.
Like Opel’s other SUVs, the new Frontera proudly features the “Lightning Bolt” logo in the center of the front panel, called the Opel Visor. Offering a seamless design, the Visor combines with the Eco LED headlights with automatic high beam to complete the car’s modern and striking appearance. Equipped with the Intelli-LED lighting system, the new Frontera aims to make Opel customers’ night driving safer and more comfortable. This advanced lighting technology minimizes driving stress while providing excellent visibility. In addition to lighting, the design, supported by the trapezoidal cooling opening at the bottom, further emphasizes the vehicle’s strong and solid stance.
Opel gives the vehicle a modern interpretation thanks to its iconic “wing” design signature and triple lighting blocks surrounded by body-colored details. When viewed from the side, the distinctive C-pillar that visually divides the spacious cabin is striking. In addition to these design elements, the pronounced fenders and wheel arches reinforce the vehicle’s powerful stance on the road, offering a modern SUV appearance. The black roof offered in the GS trim level creates a unique and modern side profile. The new Opel Frontera emphasizes its robust appearance even more strongly with the 17-inch alloy wheels in the GS trim.
The new Frontera combines its modern appearance with a smart and practical design in the interior. The decorative details on the dashboard and doors make the cabin visually more spacious. In addition, the new steering wheel, which has a bold and stylish appearance together with the fully digital Pure Panel cockpit, which offers a detox effect unique to Opel and is offered with the new-generation infotainment system with two 10-inch screens, exhibits a sophisticated touch. Opel promises a simple and useful driving experience by consistently reflecting the philosophy of maximum comfort with minimum distraction in the new Frontera. The color touchscreen infotainment system, offered as standard in the entry-level equipment level, can be customized in a manner similar to smartphones thanks to widget support and offers the user an easy experience. Since both the infotainment screen and the driver information display of the new Opel Frontera have customizable features, users can create the screen layout according to their own needs.
The 48-volt hybrid technology significantly reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to a comparable internal combustion vehicle, while also increasing driving comfort. In everyday driving, on urban and extra-urban roads, the gasoline engine and electric motor work together or separately, optimizing efficiency and performance depending on the requirements. The electric motor system supports the gasoline engine during acceleration and starting. At low speeds, it enables fully electric travel for up to one kilometre in the city or up to 50 percent of the driving time when manoeuvring. When the Opel Frontera Hybrid slows down at high speeds, the gasoline engine is deactivated and the electric motor acts as a generator, charging the hybrid system’s 48-volt battery.
Regardless of the engine type chosen, the new Opel Frontera users can enjoy a high level of ride comfort thanks to the chassis with German DNA. Opel engineers have made a special effort to ensure optimum body control and the driving characteristics that are typical of the brand, even at high speeds on motorways. The Frontera always has a firm grip on the road thanks to its low centre of gravity. In the Frontera Electric in particular, the integration of the battery into the floor contributes significantly to this balanced ride.
Frontera’s robust, high-performance and unique stability components for highway conditions include the McPherson Strut front suspension and twist beam rear axle. In addition, the shaft-mounted Electric Power Steering (EPS) improves steering feel and response and reduces weight. With all these features, the new Opel Frontera is presented to customers as a stable, responsive, excellent roadholding and easy-to-drive vehicle, even at high speeds.
