Turkey, once again demonstrating its sensitivity to the protection of cultural heritage and its return to its homeland, announced that it delivered a thousands of years old historical necklace belonging to the Moche (Mochica) culture to Peru. In the statement made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the determination to combat cultural asset smuggling was emphasized, while the principles of protecting cultural heritage and acting with a sense of universal responsibility were underlined.
Türkiye's Success in Cultural Heritage Return
The Ministry reminded that more than 20 thousand cultural assets have been returned to Türkiye in the last 13 years, and stated that with a principled stance and international cooperation approach, the return processes for the countries where the works belong have been successfully carried out. This approach reveals how seriously Türkiye takes its responsibility for the protection and sharing of cultural heritage.
Moche Necklace Ceremonially Delivered to Peru
As the latest example of this understanding, a valuable historical necklace belonging to the Moche (Mochica) culture, dating back to 200 BC and 600 AD, was returned to Peru in a special ceremony. The ceremony, held at the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, was attended by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Gökhan Yazgı and Peru’s Ambassador to Ankara Cesar Augusto De Las Casas Diaz. This meaningful delivery was recorded as an important indicator of cultural cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries. This historical necklace, reflecting the richness of the Moche culture, will now be preserved in its own lands as a part of Peru’s cultural heritage and will be passed on to future generations.
