Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu examined the ongoing works on the Trabzon Southern Ring Road on site and provided detailed information about the latest status of the project. Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that the project will be a solution to Trabzon's traffic problem and will both ease transit traffic and shorten the travel time of local traffic.
Necessity of the Project and Route Determination Process
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the daily traffic density in the Trabzon city pass, especially in the section starting from Akçaabat to the Yomra exit, has reached 80 thousand, and that this situation has created a need for a new capacity. Uraloğlu, who stated that the construction of a ring road has become necessary for this reason, reminded that the ring road projects discussed in the past contradicted the current zoning status of the city. He explained that as a result of detailed consultations, it was agreed that the route should be determined from scratch.
54,3 Kilometer New Route
Uraloğlu said, “As a result of our consultations, we have come to the conclusion that it would be right to build the 54,3-kilometer road starting from Mersin and passing through Trabzon from the south, all the way to the entrance of Araklı.” This new route will pass through the south of the city, directing transit traffic without entering the city center and ensuring that local traffic flows more smoothly.
Work on the First Section is Progressing Rapidly
Reminding that the construction work of the first section of the project started on May 1, 2023, Minister Uraloğlu said, “Since that day, we have been carrying out our construction work in the first section of approximately 16 and a half kilometers. In this section, there are 14 tube tunnels of approximately 7 kilometers and our work continues in 8 mirrors. There are also 7 viaducts of approximately 850 meters, we continue the construction work here as well.” It was stated that in this section, the tunnel and viaduct constructions are carried out simultaneously and the work continues intensively.
Intersection and Connection Roads
Uraloğlu, who stated that a junction was built at the intersection of the road with Düzköy Road, announced that the first stage will be completed in a way that will connect from Sera Lake to the existing Akyazı tunnels. This connection will contribute to a more orderly flow of urban traffic.
Second Stage Project Work Continues
Uraloğlu stated that the second stage of the project covers the section going to Araklı and that an agreement has been reached with the Metropolitan Municipality, city administrators and politicians on the route of this section, and that the project work is continuing. He stated that they had thoughts of starting the second stage before the first stage was completed.
Contributions of the Project to Trabzon
Uraloğlu emphasized that with the completion of the project, both transit traffic will be relieved and local traffic will be able to travel in a much more convenient way and in a shorter time. He also stated that the completion of the project will result in significant savings in both time and fuel. This is considered an important development that will have a positive impact on Trabzon's economic and social life.
Minister Uraloğlu's Assessment
Minister Uraloğlu said, “We do the math. We try to calculate what you need and when. Then we start it with the right timing,” emphasizing that the project went through a meticulous planning process and was implemented in line with Trabzon’s needs.
The Trabzon Southern Ring Road Project stands out as an important investment that aims to modernize the city's transportation infrastructure and solve the traffic problem. With the completion of the project, Trabzon will become a more modern, more accessible and more livable city.
