
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality is about to be forgotten sericulture breeding continues its work to revive and popularize silkworms. In this context, silkworms, which started to be produced in Alanya Sapadere Silk House, are distributed to all over Antalya. It is brought together with children in schools and nurseries.Thanks to the project, 1250 students were trained on the life cycle of the silkworm, while 265 nutrition kits were also distributed.
Silkworms Meet Students in Schools
Silkworm feeding kits specially prepared by the Metropolitan Municipality were transported to designated schools in Alanya, Akseki, Finike, Aksu, Muratpaşa and Konyaaltı, along with the silkworms in the development process in the spring months, so that students could examine them closely.
The kits include a silkworm, mulberry leaf, a magnifying glass, a thermometer and a silkworm adventure education booklet. The little students of Konyaaltı Mustafa Kemal Kids Nursery and Day Care Center curiously observed the feeding of silkworms with mulberry leaves accompanied by educational cartoons and could not hide their surprise. The children who followed the insects and cocoons with the help of lenses had enjoyable moments.
An Educational and Instructive Experience
Sapadere Silk House Manager, providing information about the silkworm promotion and dissemination activities carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality Agricultural Services Department Aysenur Ozdogan Gulmez, stated that there was great interest and demand for the training. Gülmez said, “The curiosity and excitement of the children who are meeting silkworms for the first time makes us very happy. They examine the silkworms and cocoons by seeing them closely, touching them, and asking detailed questions. Our training and nutrition kit distributions will continue at certain periods.”
Founder of Konyaaltı Mustafa Kemal Kids Nursery and Day Care Center Esra Ozturk de, expressed their happiness to take part in the silkworm program of the Metropolitan Municipality and said, “We are extremely pleased to bring our children together with this beautiful project of our Metropolitan Municipality. We would like to thank them for coming from Alanya and showing the cycle and adventure of the silkworm to our children and us in a lively way. We had a wonderful experience, it was an educational event.”
This project aims to make children love natural life and biodiversity, and to pass on the traditional handicraft of sericulture to new generations.
