KiwiRail Reopens Hillside Workshops

KiwiRail has revamped its new service in Dunedin, New Zealand Hillside Workshops has officially reopened, taking a significant step towards modernising rail services in the South Island and supporting regional growth. The development was reported by rail transport news portal Railway Supply.

Revitalized Workshops Bring Jobs and Innovation

KiwiRail Investment Supports Growth in South Island

Government investment played a significant role in this project. In 2019, the Provincial Growth Fund received $20 million grant, taken from the 2021 Budget 85 million dollars and broader fleet upgrades 23 million dollars, helped bring Hillside back to life. This funding shows how important the project is not only for rail infrastructure but also for regional development.

Wagon assembly began in March 2024.
