
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that Istanbul Airport is at the top of the list of airports in Europe in terms of aircraft traffic density. Minister Uraloğlu evaluated this success with the following words: “Istanbul Airport ranked first among the 481 airports with the busiest aircraft traffic in Europe with an average of 10 daily flights. Istanbul Airport was followed by Amsterdam Schiphol Airport with 387 flights and London Heathrow Airport with 350.”
Also an Important Center for Cargo Traffic
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that Istanbul Airport has become an important center not only in passenger traffic but also in cargo flights, and said, “With an average daily departure traffic of 38,1 in April, Istanbul Airport ranked 4th among the airports with the busiest cargo traffic in Europe. “This picture shows that our country has become a regional hub in air logistics,” he said.
Türkiye is Second in Europe in Domestic Flights
Minister Uraloğlu also touched upon Türkiye’s performance in domestic flights and said, “With an average of 869 domestic flights per day, our country ranked second in Europe. “France ranks first with 975 traffic, and Italy ranks third with 854 traffic.”
Sabiha Gökçen and Antalya are also in the Top 10
Minister Uraloğlu, who stated that Türkiye also stands out in the flight traffic of low-cost airlines, said that Sabiha Gökçen and Antalya airports are among the top 10 airports in Europe. Uraloğlu said, “Sabiha Gökçen Airport ranked 219,8th in Europe with an average of 5 daily departures, while Antalya Airport ranked 179,3th with 10 departures.”
Türkiye Ranks Fourth in New Flights
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that Türkiye is in an important position in the ranking of countries adding new flights and said, “Türkiye, which added an average of 2025 new flights per day in April 196, ranked 4th in Europe. This also shows that growth in air transportation continues,” he said. These data show that Türkiye’s growth and importance in the air transportation sector is increasing in Europe.
