IETT is in Service with Türkiye's Largest Fleet

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and its affiliate IETT manage the largest public transportation fleet in Türkiye and the second largest in the world. In Istanbul, IETT operates a total of 3.766 buses in its own fleet and 3.020 in the Private Public Bus fleet. It makes 6.786 thousand trips per day with 64 vehicles, Traveling 1 million 400 thousand km and approximately 5 million trips is performing.

Private Transportation Operating System (OTIS) and Financial Support

In December 2020, with the decision of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council, “Private Public Buses”Private Transportation Operating System (OTIS)” was activated. With this system:

  • All Private Public Buses The technological infrastructure was renewed by IMM and IETT.

Travel revenue from Private Public Buses in the period of December 2020 - April 2025, when the system was put into operation 15,8 billion TL While the total amount of payment made by IMM during this period is 35,3 billion TL Thus, IMM has reached a total of 100,000 TL for Private Public Buses. Additional support of 19,5 billion TL provided. Only in 2024, for vehicle renewals 1 billion 300 million TL support payment was made.

Restructuring of Payment Plans and Safeguards Against Possible Action

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and IETT state that they continue to work in harmony and cooperation with all their stakeholders. The entitlement payments of Private Public Buses are also made by IMM. In this direction, As of June 1, 2025 Payments for Private Public Buses have been rescheduled and it has been announced that plans have been made to create all alternative measures, including changing the current system.
