IMM Student Dormitories Sports Festival Held for the Third Time

Young people staying in IMM student dormitories came together for the third sports festival this year. Individual and team competitions organized in six branches were fiercely competitive. Activities held in open areas throughout the festival hosted fun-filled moments.

The IMM Dormitories Sports Festival, organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Youth and Sports Services Department Dormitory Services Branch Directorate in cooperation with the Sports Evaluation Branch Directorate and the Sports Facilities Branch Directorate, was organized for the third time.

TEAM MATCHES AND INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIONS WERE PLAYED

The festival, attended by approximately 14 students from 600 higher education dormitories of IMM, was held on May 10-11 at the IMM Hidayet Türkoğlu Sports Complex. Volleyball, football and basketball elimination matches were played on the first day of the festival, and table tennis, chess and archery competitions were added on the second day. Referees assigned by the federations took part in the basketball, volleyball, table tennis and chess competitions at the festival.

EXCITEMENT IN THE FINALS

The final matches of the IBB Dormitories Sports Festival were the scene of great excitement and competition. In basketball, where 15 matches were played over two days, the champion of the women's category was the Sultans of the Net Girls' Dormitory. In the final of the men's category, Ümraniye Boys' Dormitory's Şerifoğulları and Şerifali Bulls teams faced each other. At the end of the tough match, the Şerifoğulları team won the championship.

THE ACTION ON THE NET HAS NOT DIMINISHED FOR A MOMENT

In volleyball, where 18 matches were played, one of the most exciting finals of the tournament took place. In the final, which also attracted great interest from the stands, Sultans of the Net and Ornektepe faced each other in the women's category. At the end of three sets, Sultans of the Net Girls' Dormitory became the team that earned the right to go to the first place podium as the stars of the court. The excitement did not decrease for a moment in the men's final of the festival. The Vefa SK Team of IBB Ümraniye Boys' Dormitory, which left its opponents behind one by one in the qualifiers, defeated the Bağcılar 50 Kuruş Team in the final and became the first of the volleyball men's tournament.

FAIR PLAY WON

In the football where 36 matches were played, Küçükçekmece Sultans of the Net and the students of Kartal dormitories, who eliminated their opponents in the women's category, faced each other in the final. The winner of the match where the atmosphere of fair play dominated was the IBB Kartal Higher Education Girls' Dormitory team.

CHAMPION DETERMINED IN PENALTIES

The final of the men's football tournament reminded the audience of the Champions League final. The final, which hosted the competition between Küçükçekmece Sultans of the Net and Esenyurt teams, ended with a goalless draw after two 20-minute halves. The match, which did not produce a goal until the referee blew the final whistle, went to penalties and at the end of the tough competition, the team that won the cup was Küçükçekmece Sultans of the Net Erkek Yurdu.

FOUR MATCHES AT THE SAME TIME

The table tennis competitions held on the second day of the festival were held with a large participation. Meryem Ayan from the Sultans of the Net Girls' Dormitory came first at the end of the tournament where four matches were played simultaneously. In the men's category, Sultans of the Net student Hamza Deniz Onat, who played against Deniz Esen from the Gaziosmanpaşa Dormitory, won the cup.

STRATEGIES COMPETED

The most silent and far-from-sight competitions were held in chess. At the end of the mixed-gender tournament, Mert Kemal Övet, a student of the Sultans of the Net Boys' Dormitory, defeated Ecesu Azra Sürmen, a student of the Kartal Girls' Dormitory, and became the champion.

THERE WAS INTENSIVE INTEREST IN ATA SPORTS

The competitions of the ancestral sport of archery were also the last individual branch that students showed great interest in. During the tournament, where many students had the opportunity to shoot arrows for the first time, Eylül Erkan, a student of the Sultans of the Net Girls' Dormitory, became the champions of the women's category, and Mehmet Sertkaya from the Esenyurt Boys' Dormitory became the champions of the men's category.

While competitions were played in the gym and on the artificial turf pitches, areas were created in the festival area to add movement to the students' weekend. Students who had fun with Zumba, live music and DJ performances had fun with broadcasts made from the Stagebus vehicle of IMM.

TROPHIES AND MEDALS FOR CHAMPIONS

At the end of the two days, an award ceremony was held for the athletes who won the competitions they participated in. The cups and medals were given to the champions by IMM Youth and Sports Services Department Director Barış Yıldız, Sports Facilities Branch Manager Mustafa Baştimur and Sports Evaluation Branch Manager İlker Öztürk and the invitees.
