'History and Nature' Come to Life Again in Koramaz Valley

Stating that many investments from social facilities to infrastructure have been implemented in the Koramaz Valley, which is almost a natural life museum, Mayor Büyükkılıç said, "We are preparing the Koramaz Valley, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, for the future."

While the Koramaz Valley, a UNESCO-registered tourism value of Kayseri, draws attention with its lush green nature, rich historical texture and cultural heritage, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç examined the restoration of the registered Çevreş Mill located at the entrance of the valley, which will be the first and only mill restoration in Kayseri.

Under the leadership of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, Koramaz Valley, which has become the apple of Kayseri's eye with its lush green cover, natural beauties and historical texture, is the scene of the most comprehensive cultural and environmental investments of the recent period. This historical valley, which is on the journey to UNESCO World Heritage, is being reborn with the visionary projects of Mayor Büyükkılıç.

“The First and Only Mill Restoration to be Done in Our City”

Mayor Büyükkılıç examined the restoration works of the Registered Çevreş Mill located at the entrance of the valley after the previously completed restoration of Yukarı Bezirhane and received information about the works carried out. Stating that this project draws attention as the first and only mill restoration in Kayseri, Büyükkılıç said, “Many restorations have been carried out in our city and continue to be carried out. However, it draws attention as the first and only mill restoration to be carried out in our city. Hopefully, we will have completed the restoration next year. We are reviving the historical values of our city and passing them on to future generations.”

Büyükkılıç Carries History and Nature to the Future

Aiming for the Koramaz Valley to be not only a tourism route but also a local development model, Mayor Büyükkılıç also emphasized that they created opportunity areas for women entrepreneurs and citizens in the region.

Mayor Büyükkılıç underlined that the Koramaz Restaurant and Cafe serving in the valley attracted great attention, that the facility employed young people who were raised in this region, and that they strongly implemented the social municipality approach in the region.

Metropolitan Signature at Every Point

Büyükkılıç emphasized that Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality has its signature on every point in Koramaz Valley, from walking paths to sign systems, from landscaping to protection of water resources, and said that maintenance works in the valley are carried out meticulously, adding, “The valley is regularly scanned by our teams, and floods and deteriorations on the roads are immediately intervened. We act with sensitivity in protecting the roads, natural structure and historical texture.”

The water resources improvement project carried out with DSI and the cleaning work carried out with Melikgazi Municipality are among the most concrete examples of the solidarity and common sense management approach coordinated by Büyükkılıç.

UNESCO Permanent List Target

Emphasizing that the Koramaz Valley Museum, which will make a great contribution to tourism, will be put into practice soon, Mayor Büyükkılıç stated that they are working intensively with the relevant institutions and organizations for the permanent list target of the Koramaz Valley, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Temporary List on April 16, 2020.

“The historical and natural wonder Koramaz Valley, which is 12 kilometers long and winds from east to west, and is surrounded by settlements such as Büyük Bürüngüz, Subaşı, Küçük Bürüngüz, Ağırnas, Turan, Vekse and Bağpınar, deserves this list with all its historical, natural and cultural values. We are also doing our part in this rightful journey. We are waiting for local and foreign tourists in a natural life museum with dozens of trees, hundreds of plant species, bird sounds and the sound of water coming from the streams,” he said.
