Free Train Ride from Metrolink for Bicycle Day

In an effort to promote sustainable transportation in Southern California, Metrolink is running a special campaign for Bike Day, which will be celebrated on May 15. The company will offer free rides to cyclists on all train lines on that day. Since the bike itself will replace the fare, cyclists will not need to purchase a separate ticket.

“This initiative is a practical way to promote active and environmentally friendly travel options in Southern California,” said Metrolink Board Chairman Doug Chaffee, emphasizing that biking and public transportation work best together. He added that he hopes the campaign will encourage more people to make biking a part of their daily transportation.

Bicycle Friendly Wagons and Electric Bikes Allowed

While most Metrolink train cars can hold up to three bicycles, specially designed bike-friendly cars can safely accommodate up to nine bikes. Arrow trains serving San Bernardino County offer space for up to an impressive 12 bikes per car.

In addition to standard bicycles, qualified electric bicycles are also allowed under the campaign. This flexibility makes it easier for a wide range of people who use different types of bicycles to participate in this special offer. However, it is important to note that the free fare promotion does not apply to Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains. Both a paid ticket and a bicycle reservation in advance are required on Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains due to the shared-use agreement.

Support for Multimodal Transportation Solutions

Metrolink continues to support multimodal travel in line with its vision of sustainable transportation. The company works closely with regional organizations to promote green transportation through public and private partnerships and special events.

On the same Bike Day, Los Angeles transit agency LA Metro will also waive fares across its network. Similarly, the Ventura County Transportation Commission will do the same for cyclists. These coordinated efforts aim to reduce car dependency, reduce emissions and support healthier urban lifestyles by encouraging cycling. These initiatives reflect a growing shift toward integrated, low-impact transportation solutions.

Free Rental Opportunity from Metro Bike Share

To encourage non-bicycle owners to participate in the Bicycle Day celebrations, Metro Bike Share is offering a special campaign. Those who use the promo code “051525” will benefit from a 30-minute free bike rental service. This partnership allows more people to try cycling and experience the benefits of sustainable transportation.

This combined effort by Metrolink and its partners is making sustainable transportation more accessible than ever by removing cost barriers and enabling cross-agency coordination. See more route details and travel directions metrolinktrains.com/bike-day .
