
Work is progressing at full speed on the Eşrefpaşa Hospital additional service building project, one of the important investments of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in the field of health. The construction of the third floor of the modern building, which was implemented with a huge budget of 549 million liras, has begun. The foundation of the new service building, which was laid by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay on August 7, 2024 and will consist of 7 floors including the basement, is aimed to be completed by the end of 2025.
An Earthquake-Resistant and Modern Building is Rising
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Construction Department Civil Engineer Mustafa Emir Ermin provided detailed information about the work. He stated that the project of the additional service building, which is located within the campus of Eşrefpaşa Hospital, which has a deep-rooted history of 117 years and was built in place of Block C, which was damaged after the Izmir earthquake on October 30, 2020, is progressing as planned. Ermin stated that in addition to the 50-person blacksmith and molder team, a 7-person partition wall team is also actively working in the construction, and that preparations for mechanical and electrical installations are also being carried out simultaneously.
Ermin emphasized that the building was built to be highly resistant to earthquakes and shared striking information about the amount of materials used. It was stated that 16 tons of iron, equivalent to the load that approximately 420 trucks can carry, 2 cubic meters of C640 concrete and 35 bored piles were used in the foundation of the modern building. Ermin stated that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay, who is also a doctor, attached great importance to the project and added that the entire team worked day and night to complete the building as soon as possible.
New Building Will Offer Comprehensive Healthcare Services
The new additional service building, which will have a usage area of approximately 11 thousand square meters, will consist of a total of 7 floors including the basement and ground floor. The building will include an emergency room, technical units, morgue, a modern cafeteria, a 26-bed patient service, a 2-bed gynecology and obstetrics service, a 6-bed intensive care unit, 6 state-of-the-art operating rooms and operating room service, a dining hall, various meeting rooms and central sterilization units. In this way, Eşrefpaşa Hospital will reach the capacity to provide much more modern, comprehensive and fully-equipped health services to the people of Izmir. In particular, the increase in the emergency room and intensive care units will allow patients to be treated more quickly and effectively. The gynecology and obstetrics service will also provide services at modern standards. The 6 new halls in the operating room section will allow for a greater number and variety of operations to be performed. The central sterilization section will also raise hygiene standards to the highest level.
