'Emperor' Surprise for the New Season from Eskişehir City Theatres

Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres is undertaking a new ambitious project as the season draws to a close. Rehearsals have begun for the play “Emperor”, adapted from the famous novel “African Lion” by Polish author Ryszard Kapuscinski.

The City Theatre artists had promised to appear before the audience with quality works that would keep the memory of their master Genco Erkal alive at the Genco Erkal Stage, which was opened in the past months. In line with this, the play called "Emperor", the preparations of which were completed, started its rehearsals as a concrete product of this understanding.

“Emperor” in the Footsteps of Genco Erkal

Irish playwright Colin Teevan’s play based on Ryszard Kapuscinski’s novel “The African Lion” was translated into Turkish and adapted for the stage by Genco Erkal, a master name in Turkish theatre. The play was staged with great acclaim by Genco Erkal and his team at Dostlar Theatre in recent years.

In “Emperor”, which will be brought to the stage by Mert Kırlak, the valuable actor and director of Eskişehir City Theatres, successful City Theatres artist Basri Albayrak will appear before the audience with his one-man performance. The set and costume design of the play will be by Başak Özdoğan, and the lighting design will be by Ali Rıza Tekin.

“Emperor” tells the tragic end of an emperor who reigned in Africa for many years and the impressive results of the regime he established in a striking language. This impressive production, which is undergoing intensive rehearsals, is preparing to meet theatergoers at the Genco Erkal Stage in the new season.
