The container transportation project from China to Europe via Iran has received strong support from six major countries along the route. Senior railway officials from China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Türkiye met in Tehran, Iran, on May 12, to agree on the unified transportation conditions for this new international trade route. Key figures such as Deputy Director General of China Railways Sun Xiude and Chairman of the Iranian Railways Administration Jabbar Ali Zakari attended the meeting.
Delivery Time Set as 40 Days
As a result of the negotiations, the parties confirmed the container delivery time between Chengdu, a major trade center in China, and the industrial city of Łódź in Poland, as 40 days. This period is considered to be a very competitive time frame compared to existing sea and other rail routes. This could make the route an attractive alternative for international logistics companies.
Emphasis on Unified Tariff and Logistics Support
The officials who attended the meeting emphasized the importance of establishing a stable and transparent tariff system. They also expressed their full cooperation in jointly promoting this new route in the global logistics market. They also agreed to coordinate joint actions to make this corridor more attractive to carriers and operators, especially with the increasing demand for southern routes.
Eurasian Transport Cooperation is Strengthening
This important agreement aims to significantly increase the transit potential between Asia and Europe. The implementation of the new corridor is expected to reduce the logistical pressure on existing northern routes and promote regional economic integration. All countries participating in the meeting reiterated their commitment to further develop this new trade corridor, including infrastructure improvements and acceleration of border crossing procedures. This step is considered an important development in strengthening transport cooperation and facilitating trade in the Eurasian region.
