'Bring the Book You Read, It Will Turn Into a Tree' in Bursa

Books were hung on the trees in Merinos Park within the scope of the "Bring the book you read, it will turn into a tree" project initiated by the Bursa City Council to promote book reading.

In order to increase awareness of reading books and to encourage people to read by offering them books when they are not expecting them, the Bursa City Council Women's Assembly has launched the 'Bring the book you are reading, let it turn into a tree' project. Within the scope of the project, to which Santral Garaj, Küplüpınar, Gaziakdemir, Barış and Maksem neighborhood headmen's offices also contributed, many books were hung on the trees in Merinos Park. Students and citizens in the park untied the textbooks, novels and storybooks from their strings and read them.

Bursa City Council Women's Assembly President Derya Şimşek Aksakal, muhtars, Osmangazi Trade, Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and Barış Anatolian High School teachers and students attended the opening ceremony of the project.

Wishing that the books left on the trees would be a light and a path for those who read, Women's Assembly President Derya Şimşek Aksakal explained that they aimed to spread the habit of reading books with the project that was implemented. Reminding that books are also made from trees and cellulose, Aksakal said, “By leaving the books on the trees, we want people to pick them up and read them again. Every time we read a book, we rediscover the world. We all learn new things and become richer. We hung our books on the trees to share them with other people. Every book is a new beginning, a new step. We also want to take new steps for our young people who always look to the future with hope. I would like to thank all the neighborhood headmen, teachers and students who supported the project.”
